MNANGAGWA’S UNSTOPPABLE QUEST FOR POWER
In December 2018, a major event happened at Mzingwane High School, in Esigodini, Zimbabwe. President Emmerson Mnangagwa spoke at the Zanu PF Annual National People’s Conference. This meeting was very important. The president wanted to make sure the party was strong after the military coup that happened a year earlier. Around 5,000 people came to hear his speech. Bulawayo, a big city, was just 40 kilometres away from where this meeting took place. Mnangagwa was already thinking about the next election, which was planned for 2023.
Even though Mnangagwa had only been in office for a short time, he was already planning for the future. He became president on 26 August 2018. His term had only just started, but he had big plans. Mnangagwa had made a deal with Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga. The deal said Mnangagwa would only be president for one term. After that, Chiwenga would become president. This agreement was made during the November 2017 coup that ended Robert Mugabe’s 37-year rule. Chiwenga was the main person behind the coup, while Mnangagwa was the civilian leader.
But things changed quickly. After becoming president, Mnangagwa seemed to forget about his promise. Instead of stepping aside after one term, Mnangagwa wanted more time in power. He started to remove people who were close to Chiwenga. He wanted to make sure that he could stay in power for a second term, maybe even a third.
Now, some people are saying that Mnangagwa might want to stay in power beyond two terms. His recent election win was controversial, with some people saying it was unfair and full of fraud. Despite this, Mnangagwa is working hard to make sure the opposition party, the CCC, is weak in parliament. He wants Zanu PF, his party, to have a two-thirds majority in parliament. If this happens, Mnangagwa can change the constitution. This could allow him to stay in power even longer, possibly until 2033.
Mnangagwa is officially 81 years old, but some people think he might actually be 85. If he stays in power until 2033, he could be 91 years old, or even 96, according to some rumors.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is struggling. The country has been facing serious economic problems for over 43 years. Many of these problems are because of mistakes made by Zanu PF during its long time in power. The country is dealing with high inflation, unemployment, and poverty. Despite all this, Mnangagwa is focused on staying in power. His ambitions are shaping Zimbabwe’s future, even as the country struggles to move forward.
The conference at Esigodini was not just a regular political event. It showed how determined Mnangagwa is to stay in power. His actions are shaping the future of Zimbabwe. Every political move he makes is part of his plan to remain in control. Zimbabwe’s political situation is always changing, but one thing is clear: Mnangagwa is not ready to give up power.
With every decision Mnangagwa makes, he is extending his time as president. He is also shaping the future of Zimbabwe. The coup that brought him to power still affects the country today. The way Mnangagwa is handling things shows that he is not just thinking about today. He is thinking about the future, and his place in it.
The people of Zimbabwe are watching closely. Mnangagwa’s political journey is far from over. He is determined to stay in power for as long as possible. What happens next is anyone’s guess, but one thing is certain: Emmerson Mnangagwa has no plans to step aside anytime soon. His quest for power continues, and Zimbabwe’s future is still uncertain.
